"Yad Vashem"

"Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it."

Yad Vashem. A Museum. A Memorial. A Lesson. A Warning.

Yad Vashem is all these things--and more. It is a repository of faith and documents, of names and stories, of lives and losses. Innumerable losses; unspeakable pain. But it is also a tribute to the survivors and a testament to the righteous Gentiles who risked their own lives to try and save Jews.

There is an archives with lists of names, a chapel with an eternal flame that burns by the names of each of the death camps. Some ashes from each crematoria are buried there.

There is history and artwork and poetry and shoes... empty shoes of women, men, and children whose lives were destroyed simply because they were Jews.

Yad Vashem-- an effort to remember, to survive, to bury some ashes from each crematorium in sacred ground.

May the memory of the martyrs be for a blessing.
